Tomb Raider II Remastered is in co-op, the full game with Golden Mask and Lara's Home, boats and skidoos included. The mod speaks five languages now. There's emotes, spectating and teleport keys, and Challenge Update 4 is supported alongside Update 3.
New here? The v3.0.0-rc1 notes explain what v3 is, what co-op shares and how to get it running. This page is what's changed since rc2.
What's new in v3.0.0-rc3
Tomb Raider II co-op
Everything co-op does in Tomb Raider I it now does in Tomb Raider II: enemies, doors, switches, pickups, traps, puzzles and bosses, shared across everyone in the level. The full game, Golden Mask and Lara's Home.
Boats and skidoos are shared too. Whoever's driving owns the vehicle and the rest can climb on as passengers: walk up, Action on Ride Boat or Ride Skidoo. There's a new Spawn Vehicles toggle under Mods / Multiplayer, off by default and TR2 only, and with it on, Action next to a partner's vehicle offers Spawn Boat or Spawn Skidoo for one of your own. Blow one up and everyone on it dies, and the wreck stays where it is.
PvP got the TR2 treatment as well. Grenades and harpoons wound, and running someone over counts. Thrown flares show up for everyone.
Challenge Update 4
Challenge Update 4, the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered patch from 6 October, is supported on Steam, GOG and Epic. Update 3 still is too. Nothing older.
Five languages
Spanish, Hungarian, Portuguese and Turkish join English, translated by people from the community. It follows the game's language setting, so set the game to one of those and every menu, hint and message the mod puts on screen comes up in it. Anything else falls back to English. More are on the way, and if you want yours in there, say so on the Discord.
Emotes, spectating and teleport keys
Four new rows under Key Bindings, none of them bound until you do it: Emotes, Spectate, Set Teleport Target and Teleport To Player.
- Emotes. A line over Lara, Left and Right cycle Wave, Cheer, Dance, Bow and Nod, and everyone in the level sees it.
- Spectate. Follows a partner with the chase camera. You get a Spectating tag under your name and they get a watching count top centre.
- Teleport keys. Teleport without opening the chat. Set Teleport Target picks who, with the pick shown in the chat area, and Teleport To Player sends you to them.
/teleportstill works in the chat, and/teleportxtakes coordinates if you've got them.
Trap resets
A few things that only go once in the classics can be put back. Trap groups in The Great Pyramid and The Great Wall, and the zip lines in Tomb Raider II, get a Reset trap or Reset zipline hint when you're stood by them, and Action puts them back for the next run through.
Loading waits for the level
Joining a shared level now waits on the loading screen, with Synchronizing at the bottom, until the level's current state has arrived. You load in at the level as it is for everyone else, not a few seconds behind it.
The rest
- Challenge Mode outfits show on every player.
- A partner's explosion death plays out on everyone's machine, and a partner's flares and gun flashes light the room for you too.
How do I update?
Portable, same as before, so nothing to uninstall. Download the zip, extract it, and run trrm-v3.0.0-rc3.exe from the TRRM-v3.0.0-rc3 folder with trrm.dll next to it. Your settings and key bindings carry over, they live in AppData, not in the folder.
If you host your own server, update that too. It's trrm-server-v3.0.0-rc3.exe, next to the folder in the zip, and rc3 talks a new protocol, so an rc3 client and an rc2 server won't see each other. Everyone has to be on the same build as the server.
Tomb Raider I and II Remastered, on Challenge Update 3 or 4, on Steam, GOG and Epic, on Windows. Still nobody's tried it under Proton, so if you do, say how it went.
Still a public test
Three rounds in and it's still a release candidate, not the stable build. v2 stays up as the stable version, and it's still the only way to play III to VI together for now. Play Tomb Raider II the whole way through, co-op and solo, boats and all, and when something major goes wrong, post it in #feedback on the Discord with your log, the level, what you were doing and who was in the session.
